Doyle Brunson's T-2 is one of the most famous poker hands of all time. It's actually not a very good starting hand in Texas Hold'em, but it won "Texas Dolly" two world championships, in 1976 and 1977. Our poker calculator will, however, reveal that Doyle was very lucky indeed when he won his first WSOP title.

This is how the last hand of the 1976 WSOP Main Event was played:

Brunson's opponent Jesse Alto raised with As-Jh, and Doyle called with Ts-2s. At this point, Alto was a 65.33% favorite to win the hand.

The flop came Ah-Js-Ts, giving Alto top two pair and Brunson bottom pair. Alto made a bet, Brunson moved all-in, and Alto obviously called.

Let's check with the poker calculator once again. Alto now had a massive lead, 86.67%. There was 1.41% chance of a split pot, and Brunson had only 11.92% chance to win the hand. The probability of Brunson winning this hand is really low.

The turn, 2c, brought some hope to Brunson, but Alto actually increased his lead to 90.91%, according to the poker calculator.

Amazingly, the Td fell on the river, giving Doyle Brunson a full house and the WSOP Main Event title. The Texan walked away with $220,000 in prize money.

In 1977, Brunson sat with Ts-2h in the final hand. This time he was actually 58.58% favorite pre-flop against Bones Berland, who had 8h-5c.

The flop came Td-8s-5h, and once again Brunson had one pair against two. Berland was a 70.91% favorite to win at this point, but both players decided to check the flop.

Brunson took the lead, 90.91%, when the 2c gave him a higher two pair on the turn. Brunson made a bet, Berland moved all-in, and Brunson called.

Even though he didn't need it this time, Brunson once again caught a full house when the Tc came on the river. He won the 1977 WSOP, $340,000 in prize money, and the hand T-2 would forever be known as the Doyle Brunson.
